Fri 19th
Reasonably early start in the sunshine,
first stop was Aldi for shopping. Fully stocked up we headed to Faro the
Algarve capital. The sat nav guided us down some narrowing cobbled streets but
we made it safely to the free carpark right by the old town.
We were soon right in front of the
cathedral (ABC – another b****y cathedral was setting in for me…….). The
cobbled square was very open and quite elegant. We them headed down through some
narrow streets towards a maze of restaurants and shops. There was huge range of
Christmas trees decorated with all sorts of materials, many of them recycled
items such as yogurt pots, bottle tops and even biscuit trays! The trees are all identical and made from
MDF, it is then up to the individuals to make them original. Lots of efforts
from schools and clubs. Very different, and definitely fun.

We then moved onto a parking spot in
Quarteria a beach resort. The area is used for a market on Wednesdays so there
was quite a bit of tiny bits of litter amongst the gravel. Not very scenic, but
ok for one night at €2 including services and wifi.
When it was dark we spotted an illuminated
Lidl sign next door! It was just around the corner, so we walked around and
bought a few things we had been unable to get at Aldi. Plus we treated
ourselves to a bottle of cream liquor for Christmas. Any excuse.
Wow. Looks very clean and attractive. Google Earth shows lots of Villa developments on the outskirts - good place to have a swimming pool business. . . .
