Manta Rota

Mon 15th

The sun returned today – hooray! We had set the alarm for 7.30am to make the best use of the day, so were ready to depart by 9.30am which is very early for us these days. We elected to drive along the coast road , the N125 to Praia de Manta Rota all of 9 miles. The road surface was appalling, quite easily a match for the poor roads in Italy.

Once we had literally squeezed by a road sign and digger (breathe in…..) we arrived at the huge autocaravannas parking area right by the dunes. It wasn’t full but had lots of German & French vans well installed for the winter, with trailers, scooters and quite a few hire cars parked up. It seems that many French camping caristes are avoiding Morocco because of the current problems and staying in Portugal as it is cheaper than Spain.

We walked in for a look and soon got chatting to a lovely Scottish couple outside their Hymer. The area looked good, the sun was warm so we moved in behind them.

no - we do not have a new aerial, it's the street light behind us!

After lunch we walked along the very nice, clean beach and through the village which is very small . It was very quiet and clean. In fact we had seen hardly any litter since entering Portugal. Fingers crossed.

beautiful clean beach

The beach was lovely with lots of shells, it stretched for miles in both directions. Paddling tomorrow?
