Ferragudo - one of our firm favourites!

Fri 16th

We were back in Ferragudo having arrived late afternoon on Thursday and parked in the same slot as previously. Today we were meeting up again with the hilarious Dave & Sue. We moved across a big slot right on the water’s edge so we could get our vans together. It was a bit showery but we cycled along to Lidls where we saw their van parked up. They very kindly offered to bring our shopping back to the free parking spot. So our shopping expanded! Beer and wine was included of course. Dave & Sue had a windsurf in the afternoon before we all enjoyed a welcome cup of tea!

sunny but cool

That evening we walked all of 500m across to a curry house for a much anticipated meal. Run by an expat couple Dipti & David it was a very tasty and enjoyable meal. Lots of laughter and a great
evening.

Tina with Dave & Sue

Sat 17th

On and off showers and surprisingly cool so we mooched around the vans for most of the day before we all went for a walk up to the church then along the far beach. That evening we were entertained over dinner in D & S van. We had oven chips that were very yummy – amazing the simple things you miss. Tina also surprised us all with her authentic rendition of  “Albert Harold” a poem read to  her  by her late Father when she was growing up. Hidden talents!

As we cleared up the rain started and little did we know what Mother Nature had in store for us during the night?  From about midnight until 9am we were battered by heavy rain and very strong gale force wind, the van was buffeted about, as we were broadside to the wind. I closed all the vents, but forgot to fit the fridge vent cover. Mistake, as at 3 am the wind was howling through it and causing a very chilly draught under the fridge.   We also had a small amount of water being forced under the main door seal due the “designed” feature of an air gap for ventilation. A stupid feature, which will be removed when we get home! We had slept until 2 am but after that we were kept awake by the weather ramming into the van and shaking it about. Tina was worried we would be blown over!

Sun 18th

We slept until 9am but still felt tired due to the noisy, stormy night we had endured. Once up we chatted with our Dutch neighbours who had moved their van at 3am to try and avoid the wind. Lots of other vans had moved to avoid the brunt of the storm. We chatted to Dave and Sue who were also very tired having been awake most of the night. It really did feel like the morning after the night before.

The rest of the day was spent lazing around in the sunshine, sheltering out of the wind in front of the vans as the wind had swung right round.

Cormorant boat!

Despite our best intentions we got to bed rather late after another good evening of wine and laughter with Dave and Sue. Tina’s chicken stir fry going down very well indeed.
