Villa Nova de Milfontes & Porto Covo

Sat 10th

Had it worked?  Yes, no problem. So before breakfast I refitted the mended part outside in the warm morning sunshine, much to the amusement of passing fellow motorhomers. After a bit of fettling and filing it worked perfectly, JB to the rescue again.

fixed!

A bit later than planned we left and headed north to Villa Nova de Milfontes. The road was good , we spotted a roadside font so stopped and filled up our water tank with the lovely fresh spring water. The recommend parking spot was opposite the town over the river and looked newly revamped. Some French people standing by the restaurant turned out to be motorhomers and told me “no sun here until midday, move over to town”.  I thanked them and we drove over to a carpark right on the beach front. Huge signs clearly said no overnighting?  The French guy suddenly appeared on his scooter and beckoned me to follow him. Brilliant, isn’t it great when people help each other out. We followed him to a nearby gravel parking area just off the main road. He was parked up there with his friend, he even directed me to a level spot. What service, and much appreciated.

It was very quiet there and we later walked into town for a meal in a typical Taverna.  Good meal with an entertaining owner who spoke French as she had no English.

Sun 11th

Nice quiet night, so after breakfast we ventured a bit further north to Porto Covo. Just south of Sines it is a lovely seaside town with a very calm atmosphere. The service area is in town and free. So after sorting out the van, we headed for another free parking area on the beach. We were spoilt for choice! Our chosen spot looked along the coast and we could clearly see the waves rolling in and huge plumes of spray as they hammered into the rocks.

Behind us there was bizarrely a field of ostriches. We haven’t seen it on any menus?

After lunch I decided to let Tina give me a haircut with our newly purchased hair trimmer!! So after reading the instructions and checking she had her glasses on I sat still and let her get on with it. Her gasps as my hair started to come off before her eyes was a bit disconcerting at first. But what the hell I said it will grow back! The end result after a bit of laughter and “adjustment” is actually not bad at all. I do feel like the proverbial bog brush, but it really is ok!  Honest.

not bad eh?

  2. NIce haircut - but she left all the gray hairs - you need a bit of Grecian 2000 (both of you!).
