Tues 13th
Not bad weather so out on my road bike and
back down to Monchique and along the road towards Santa Clara. Nice downhill
followed by a lovely gradual climb through the trees with great views. I had
arranged to meet Tina who was out on the scoot for the first time in ages. As I
entered Monchique I spotted Dave & Sue’s motorhome parked up, we had met
them at Praia Da Marinha and had a real good laugh with them. I met Tina at a café
and we had just written a note to leave on their van when they drove past. Beep, beep!
Once we had exchanged greetings we arranged to host them for dinner that
evening. I still had 5 miles uphill to cycle so got on with it – slowly!
the last 2 miles - phew.
Later on I BBQ’d a chicken for our evening
meal, but had to contend with mist & cloud blowing in. It felt like a scene
from The Hound Of the Baskervilles as I sat outside watching the chicken cook whilst the others watched me from the sin side of a snug van.
We
had a great evening of food, drink and chat until well after midnight which was
way beyond our now normal bedtime of 10.30pm. How will we cope when we get
home?
Weds 14th
Long lie then a lazy morning chatting to
Dave and Sue over tea. We said our goodbyes and we headed for the waet coast
again to Praia De Amoda. The road there was very scenic and soon we were
looking for a sea view spot high above the beach below us. A fellow Brit lady
very kindly offered to move her van over to allow us a premier spot. What a
sunset we saw that evening the orange/red afterglow lasted for 30 mins after
the sun had slid beneath the horizon. Wonderful.
